Care and cleaning
Your ring is made to be worn every day. A few simple habits will keep it looking the way it did when it arrived, whether it's solid gold and diamonds or one of our gold plated pieces.
Caring for your jewellery
Everyday wear
Put your jewellery on last, after perfume, moisturiser and sunscreen, and take it off first. We'd also take rings off for the gym, gardening, swimming and cleaning, where knocks and chemicals do the most damage.
Solid gold, platinum and diamonds
Cleaning at home
Soak your ring in warm water with a drop of mild dishwashing liquid for about 20 minutes. Brush gently around and under the stone with a soft toothbrush, where oils and lotion build up, then rinse and pat dry with a lint-free cloth. A clean every few weeks keeps a diamond looking bright.
What to avoid
Skip harsh chemicals like bleach, chlorine and abrasive cleaners, which can dull or weaken the metal over time. We'd also avoid ultrasonic cleaners at home, as the vibration can loosen settings.
Checking your setting
Every few months, have a close look at the claws holding your diamond. If a stone moves, a claw looks lifted or something catches on clothing, stop wearing the ring and email us at hello@unadiamond.com. Manufacturing defects are covered by our three-year warranty.
Gold plated pieces
Keeping the plating bright
Plating is a thin layer of gold, so it lasts longest when it's kept dry and away from chemicals. Take plated pieces off before showering, swimming or exercising, and keep perfume, lotion and chlorine away from them.
Cleaning plated jewellery
Wipe it gently with a soft, dry cloth after wearing. Don't soak plated pieces or use jewellery cleaners on them, as both can wear the plating away.
Storing your jewellery
Keep pieces apart
Store each piece on its own in a soft pouch or a lined jewellery box. Diamonds can scratch gold, platinum and other diamonds, and plated pieces last longer kept away from air and moisture.
