Pear ¹

A pear is half round brilliant, half marquise: rounded at one end and tapering to a point at the other. It has all the sparkle of a brilliant cut in a soft teardrop outline.

It's graceful and a little unexpected, with a romantic, vintage-leaning feel. A pear looks beautiful on its own, and just as lovely paired with a second stone in a toi et moi.

Most people wear the point towards the fingernail, which lengthens the hand, but turning it around or setting it east-west gives you a completely different look. Like a marquise, the tip is the delicate part, so it's best protected with a claw.
