How Long Does a Custom Engagement Ring Take to Make?
Timing is often the first practical question people ask when considering a made-to-order engagement ring. The short answer: at Una Diamond, your ring will be ready in approximately six weeks from order confirmation. But it's worth understanding what goes into that timeline — and how to plan around it.
The Production Timeline
A handcrafted engagement ring in solid 18K gold or platinum requires time at every stage. After your order is confirmed, the process typically unfolds like this:
Week 1–2: Diamond sourcing and confirmation. If you've chosen a specific stone, it's secured. If you're selecting from options, this is when you review the presented stones and confirm your choice.
Week 2–4: Ring fabrication. The setting is cast in your chosen metal, refined, and prepared for stone setting. This is skilled handcraft — it cannot be rushed without compromising quality.
Week 4–5: Stone setting. The diamond is carefully set in the prepared mounting, with each prong checked for security. Pavé or side stones, if included, are set during this stage.
Week 5–6: Finishing, polishing, and quality inspection. The ring is finished to a high polish, inspected for any imperfections, and photographed before packaging.
Factors That Can Affect the Timeline
Complex designs with multiple stone sizes, unusual shapes, or specific surface treatments may add time. Rush requests are occasionally possible depending on current workload — contact us if your timeline is tight and we'll advise honestly.
Planning for Your Proposal
Six weeks gives you a reasonable window — but if you're proposing around a specific date (Christmas, Valentine's Day, an anniversary, a birthday), order with appropriate buffer. We'd suggest at minimum 8 weeks in advance if proposing around a peak date, and 10 weeks around December to allow for holiday delays in materials or courier services.
